How to Find Your Ring Size?

Getting your ring size right is one of the most important steps in ordering jewellery online. A ring that fits perfectly is a ring that gets worn every day. A ring that doesn't fit sits in a drawer. This guide gives you everything you need to measure your size at home accurately, along with a complete conversion chart for every market we ship to.

How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home?

There are two simple methods you can use at home with no specialist tools required.

The Paper Strip Method

Cut a thin strip of paper approximately 1cm wide and 10cm long. Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you intend to wear the ring on. Mark the point where the paper overlaps with a pen. Remove the paper and measure the length from the end to your mark in millimetres. This is your finger circumference. Match it to the chart below to find your size.

The String Method

Take a piece of string or thread and wrap it around the base of your finger. Mark the point where it meets with a pen or pinch it with your fingers. Lay it flat against a ruler and measure the length in millimetres. This is your circumference. Use the chart below to find your corresponding ring size.

Important Tips Before You Measure

Your fingers change size throughout the day. They are slightly larger in the evening and when warm, and slightly smaller in the morning and when cold. For the most accurate measurement, measure your finger at the end of the day when it is at its largest. If you are measuring for a ring with a wider band, go half a size up as wider bands fit more snugly than narrow ones. Always measure the specific finger you intend to wear the ring on as fingers on the same hand can differ in size.

Size Notes by Market

United States & Canada

Ring sizes in the US and Canada use the same numeric system ranging from size 3 to size 13, with half sizes available throughout. The most common women's ring size in the US is between 6 and 7. The most common men's ring size is between 9 and 11. All Real Canary rings can be ordered in any full or half size within this range.

United Kingdom & Australia

The UK and Australia use an alphabetical sizing system running from A to Z, with half sizes denoted by a plus sign such as F½ or N½. UK and Australian sizes are identical, so buyers in both markets can use the same column in the chart above. The most common women's ring size in the UK and Australia is between L and N. The most common men's size is between R and T.

Canada

Canadian ring sizes follow the same numeric system as the United States. Simply use the US & Canada column in the chart above to find your size.

Asia - Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore & Southeast Asia

Asian ring sizing varies slightly by country but most commonly follows the Japanese numeric system which runs from size 1 to size 27. This system is used widely across Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and much of Southeast Asia. Use the Japan & Asia column in the chart above to find your corresponding size. If you are based in China or Hong Kong and use a different local sizing system, we recommend measuring your circumference in millimetres and matching it directly to the chart for the most accurate result.

India

Indian ring sizes typically follow a numeric system similar to the UK and Australian alphabetical system, though local jewellers may use their own variations. We recommend measuring your finger circumference in millimetres and using that measurement directly from the chart to ensure the most accurate size when ordering.

What If My Size Falls Between Two Sizes?

If your measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend going up to the larger size rather than down. A ring that is very slightly loose is easier to resize than one that is too tight. If you are ordering a wider band of 6mm or more, also consider going up half a size as wider bands sit more snugly against the finger than a slim band of the same size.

Measuring for a Surprise Gift

If you are ordering a ring as a surprise and do not know the recipient's ring size, there are a few ways to get an approximate measurement. You can borrow a ring they already wear on the same finger and trace the inner circle onto paper, then measure the diameter across the widest point and match it to the chart above. Alternatively, the average women's ring size globally is between a US 6 and 7, and the average men's ring size is between a US 9 and 10. These are starting points only — we always recommend confirming the size before ordering if possible.

FAQs about Ring Size Chart in different Countries

Can I change my ring size after ordering?

Yes. We offer one complimentary resize within the first year of purchase. Contact us as soon as possible after receiving your ring and our team will guide you through the process.

How do I know if a ring fits correctly?

A correctly fitting ring should slide over the knuckle with a small amount of resistance and sit snugly at the base of the finger without spinning freely. You should be able to remove it with a gentle twist but it should not slide off on its own.

Do ring sizes differ between fingers?

Yes. Your ring finger, index finger, and middle finger are all likely to be slightly different sizes even on the same hand. Always measure the specific finger you intend to wear your ring on rather than assuming all fingers are the same size.

Does the band width affect sizing?

Yes. Wider bands of 6mm or more fit more snugly than narrow bands of the same size. If you are ordering a wide band, we recommend going up half a size from your normal measurement.

What is the most common ring size?

The most common women's ring size globally is between US 6 and 7, which corresponds to UK M to O. The most common men's ring size is between US 9 and 11, which corresponds to UK R to V.

Can I get my ring sized by a local jeweller?

Yes. Any reputable local jeweller can measure your ring size using professional sizing tools. Ask them to measure in millimetres as well as their local size so you can match it directly to our chart above.
